On Sunday 12 August the third Festival d’Espenan took place.
Sequence 2018: MONDAIN FESTIN at CHAMP de BATAILLE!
It occurred on the 29th of August 1639 at the decisive siege of Thionville.
Proud of taking this crescent, D’Espénan invites his leader and protector to a field banquet on the battlefield.
His guest, Duke D’Enghien, who trusts his general, comes with his cousin, Duke D’Aumale (husband of a niece of the late Louis XIII), each accompanied by a distant cousin or special friend.
The cavalcade and the aperitif after the church could still take place in the best weather with bright sunshine.
Just in time for the beginning of the dinner and the performance, a violent thunderstorm with gusts of storm came up. Between the rain showers the event could still take place including fireworks. Unfortunately, many have been put off by the weather.
